This vehicle is a form of evolution from horse-drawn carriages that have existed in Indonesia since the Dutch colonial era. The name “Delman” is believed to come from the name of its inventor, Charles Theodore Deeleman, a Dutch engineer and lithography expert. Generally, a delman is categorized as a non-motorized passenger vehicle controlled by a driver called a “kusir”. Description A delman has a unique structure. Its main part is a carriage (body) made of wood or light metal, which functions as the passenger cabin.
